MyRingling Multi-Factor Setup

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-factor authentication is an added layer of security used to verify your identity when signing in to an application.  When enabled, you will need to present a combination of credentials to verify your identity.  This increases security because even if one credential becomes compromised (your password), unauthorized users will be unable to meet the second authentication requirement which is either a code that changes every 60 seconds (time-based one time passwords TOTP), a push notification that you respond to on your phone (Okta Verify), or a physical hardware key (Yubikey) that you connect to unlock your account.

How do I set up Multi-Factor Authentication?

What is the easiest option?

Okta Verify is a mobile application that can be used for multi-factor authentication. While you can choose from several authentication methods for the login process, the Okta Verify app is one of the easiest and most secure options.

Pick more than one option!

While Okta Verify on your phone is the easiest option to use, how would you get into your account if you drop your phone and break it? You should have a backup option set up in case you need to use it. For example, you could set up Okta Verify as your primary option, but configure your home phone as a backup. You could also install Okta Verify on more than 1 device, for example an iPad and your cell phone. There are many combinations you can choose from.
